Union officials are seeking to have microwave ovens removed from state prisons following a weekend assault in which a prisoner allegedly heated a mixture of Vaseline and water and threw it in the face of an officer.
The 49-year-old officer at the Huron Valley Men’s Facility near Ypsilanti was hospitalized for two days with second-degree burns to his face and may have long-term damage to his eye, said Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Russ Marlan.
I wonder if there are any Muslim inmates in the Lansing system that use a special microwave for cooking non-pork food and if, for religious reasons, the microwave would be mandated by a court to stay accessible.
