You are your cellphone and the New York Police Department knows your phone identifies you better than a fingerprint or an identity card because you can be marked and tracked throughout your life in real time and the breadcrumbs of your history in movement and communication can be recorded, saved, and used against you for future prosecution -- and it may not be legal.

If we still believe in the United States that the purpose of prison is to rehabilitate both mind and body -- should we ever be putting people in solitary confinement for years on end?  Should an entire prison term ever consist of 23-hour a day lockdown with one man in a single cell?

Shame in One in Thirty-One

We hit a new low in the national shame of the United States this week. One in every 31 American citizens is doing time or is on parole.  The incarceration rate doubled in 25 years.

The UK have always been forward thinking and proactive when it comes to comforting the human condition in medicine and trying to alleviate the suffering in the halls of incarceration.  It must have been difficult to accept the notion that -- over the last four years as "Community Sentences" rose as a diversionary tactic to reduce the prison population -- the incarceration rate rose just as well.

If you're a young woman in the city core, I'm sure you're familiar with the new "street assault" that incarcerates you with a hard bump from a male to get your attention.

It was once a hobby of many - taking photographs of the beautiful trains that crisscross the countryside. There are so many different trains and, judging by the number of model train enthusiasts, a considerable number of people interested in looking at them.  Amtrak recently sponsored a contest to take photographs of its own trains. The winner would get a thousand dollars in travel vouchers and get their photo published in Amtrak's annual calendar.
